Lighting As Art

As the lighting industry continues to change at a lightning-fast pace, new products and applications are introduced just as quickly; add remote wiring into the mix and it’s easy to see how uses and designs for lighting are becoming limitless.

Gone are the days that a chandelier consisted of some electrical wires, the average canopy, some incandescent lightbulbs and a classic crystal drop fixture. It’s now not uncommon to see lighting appear as though it is floating and somehow powered by magic.  Bocci, for example, offers a canopy embedded into the ceiling allowing their lighting to appear as an illuminated sculpture floating in the room. These changes have occurred quickly, thereby simultaneously creating an LED revolution and evolution. With this evolution comes change and progress, some choose to think outside the box and to look to more applications for new technologies. With this evolution comes change and progress, some choose to think outside the box and look to new technologies for their lighting applications. Lighting, as a result, has the possibility of becoming more sculptural and the addition of lighting as art is being seen more than ever.

Many in the industry are embracing new technologies, collaborations with interior and industrial designers, architects and artists allow more lighting companies the opportunity to create truly beautiful lighting installations. As the industry evolves, the future of lighting is becoming more and more exciting and we continue to look globally to see where the future of lighting will take us.
